The Department of Immigration and Citizenship has announced a major upgrade to Malawi’s passport system, introducing robust and enhanced security features.
This development comes after the government awarded a five-year contract to Madras Security Printers, worth 52 billion kwacha.
According to Wellington Chiponde, spokesperson for the department, the new passport system meets the standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization under the United Nations.
This ensures that Malawian passports will be recognized and respected globally.
But that’s not all – the new system also introduces several convenient features:
- Online Payment: Passport applicants can now pay for services online, reducing the need for physical visits to regional department offices.
- Mobile Kit: Citizens can have their passport photos taken in their own communities, making the application process more accessible.
Chiponde emphasized that this move aims to reduce congestion at regional department offices, making the passport application process more convenient and efficient for Malawians.
